M.E.C.D.A

This is how M.E.C.D.A. [The Middle Eastern Culture and Dance Association] describes itself :

The Middle Eastern Culture and Dance Association is an organization dedicated to serving as a source of communication, education and inspiration to our dance community as well as to the general public. We provide three separate publications to members as well as a beautiful web site in addition to online information services. We also produce festivals, regional dance parties and workshops.

Our secondary cause is to combat domestic violence - and to that end, violence worldwide. At each MECDA dance party, clean clothing and new cosmetic products are collected and donated to the battered women's shelter within closest proximity. We also conduct our famous Shimmython (one contest each day at the Cairo Carnivale) and donate all proceeds to a related charity. Thousands of dollars have been collected by participating dancers and disbursed appropriately.
